Recieving inspiration and encouragement from his first mentor, Johnny Gimble, Dave then studied under Bobby Flores at the Bul Verde Academy of Music. He also found kinship with other fiddlers at fiddle camps and contests, developing friendships and influences of Randy Elmore, Wes Westmoreland III, Dale Morris, Danny Levin, Paul Anastasio and Bryan Duckworth. During this growing period, he co-produced The Gathering, a monthly country music show that features local and big name entertainers that perform with an “A” list band of musicians that have performed for Ray Price, Johnny Bush, Willie Nelson, Asleep at the wheel, Rick Trevino, Frenchie Burke, Eric Clapton, the list goes on. This venue provided the intense level of musicianship required to advance quickly since the performers and material change with every show. Entertainers such as The Gimbles, Fiddlin' Frenchie Burke, Tony Booth, Justin Trevino, Billy Mata, Al Dressen, John Wayne Schulz, Bobby Flores and many others have performed.
